EZGO Electric Golf Cart motor

Tried to jump motor with 2 6v golf cart batteries in order to test motor on a 95 EZGO electric cart; placed S1 w/ A2, (+) terminal of one of the batteries to S2, (-) terminal of the second battery to A1; then, got a lot of sparks when tried to connect the remaining terminals in the batteries to close the loop . Wonder if did anything wrong? or if motor is definitely fried, given that it did not turn with test as described? If there is a better way let me know?!

Yours I assume connect to all the batteries in the golf cart? With the connection to controller and solenoid too?

Then one I posted can be done with 2 or 3 batteries. Watch polarity; it is important in the test....

It looks like you have it set up the way scottyb is showing. To insure polarity, you could use only one battery. jack the cart up and make sure the brake is off. the motor should turn slowly.

Now noticed my controller is also giving me odd voltmeter readings; with red voltmeter wire on B+ and black on M- and with key on and pedal pressed I'am getting a 1; wonder if anyone has an input on this strange result.

Not trying to be a smartarse but you do have the meter on DC right?

I assume by your post that this is a series motor based on you using S1 and S2. However, if by chance it's a shunt (for that year a DCS) cart then that wiring setup will not work. See the attached. Also, On EZGOs I've never had luck turning he motor with only 12 volts. I've always had to use at least 18v i.e. three batteries.
