Default stereo Install Questions

Hey I'm ready to start putting a stereo in my cart. I will be using an auxiliary battery so the common battery issue won't be a problem. Im using an automotive stereo head unit from a Volkswagen Jetta. I found it laying around my dad's body shop. I do not have any wires or anything, just the unit. Here are a few pics:

Here is a link to some info i could find on the unit:
http://www.modifiedlife.com/2001-vol...monsoon-audio/
I'm pretty sure that's my radio. Anyway my question is...If i want to connect this unit to 2 speakers and auxiliary battery, what do i need? Should i buy the wiring harness for this radio or what? I am completely clueless. Any feedback would be nice. Thanks.

I would look at the salvage yards for the wiring harness, just the part that plugs in the back, then get a service manual that shows the wiring out from the unit. FInally wire it up, should work fine but take the negative wire from your aux battery and route it directly to the unit, don't rely on a chassis ground for automotive stye accessories with a sparky cart. I use a motorcycle battery and a solar charger to keep it going, the only thing I am running off this is a 50watt marine amp with a 1/8 plug input from my Zune, works great and the wife can listen to the radio all day at the beach and never drain the battery!

dk pick up a harness if you can find one. It is very hard to connect leads to the plugin on the rear of the radio. It can be done with out a harness but most people get bad connections or damage the radio. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I just ordered this wiring harness:

I guess now i need some speakers. Any recommendations? Do specific types work well with this unit. I am only going to use 2 speakers by the way, probably mounted in the dash. And i followed arcitech all until

That harness looks like the one used to replace the factory deck like the one you have with an aftermarket unit. You would need the exact opposite of that plug to install the radio in other than a VW. You would also need either an antenna adapter or a factory VW antenna. I would start with Metra Electronics at www.metraonline.com, they specialize in this type of stuff.

I tried to access the Metra site but I doesn't load properly on my phone to see what you see. There are a male and female plugs, if you have two female plugs it won't work. If you call Metra and let them know what you want to do they will give you the part numbers you need if they have something available for the application.

what you ordered is what you'd need if you installed an aftermarket stereo in the vw jetta. you need the factory wire harness that plugs into the back of the stock stereo. it will have the exact connector that plugs into the stereo. a vw dealer might be able to get it. you'll also need the antenna wire or you won't have am/fm. this is the harness you need...

here is a link but you should be able to get it from a salvage yard... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-O...mZ400182874930

He is talking about the ground wire from the unit. It has to be grounded and it will say to ground it to the frame (metal). Instead of that, you should ground it to the negative (-) terminal on the battery. Then wire the power wire to the positive (+) terminal of the battery.

would this be what i needed? i canceled my old order and called Metra. They told me i needed part number 70-1787. is this correct?
EDIT: if that part is wrong (i was thinking about the male to female connection and noticed that the above cable looks to be male as is the connection on the stereo) would this part suffice?:
http://enfigcarstereo.com/71_1784.html
One thing i would like to point out is that^ does not have a connection for the top connection on the stereo. You can see the connections here and easily tell what that^ is missing:
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q...adio/photo.jpg
But what i may have learned from the wiring diagram link in my original post is that the top connection is not needed if I'm just hooking up to a battery and two speakers. Tell me what you think.
