Forgive my ignorance, but what is the benefit of using a 36V motor over the 48V?

And I have an older 36V DS parts cart that may have a good motor in it.

No. Not all year model motors will bolt up to your 2000 rear end. For sure anything 92&up should fit.

Use the search button and read about voltage upgrades. These 36v motors run well on 48v producing 33% more torque and speed.

thanks Scottyb. Now if someone has a 36 volt they want to give away or almost.

Question Re: 48 to 36 motor

OK, newb reply here:
I get throwing 48v into a 36v motor system, but mine is a 48v CC cart. So if I understand ya'll right, I could find a 36v motor that mounts up to my 98 CC DS & with no other mods, it would be up to 33% better in torque & speed???

Essentially. Yes. you might be a little disappointed in the torque though due to the 225 amp limit on the CC 48v stock control.

OK, I think I understand the controller limit issue.
Since I'm a newb & you are a guru around here, from what I've read... Let me throw this out there.
I have an 98 DS 48v, bone stock, that I acquired for $100 cash with 4 flat tires & batteries from 2005, that I wanted to fix up for my daughter.
Tires held good pressure & I Tire Slime'd them for good measure.
We desulfonated the batteries & all are holding 8-8.2 volts each (but I know it won't be long before they need to be replaced).
Very pleased that it took virtually nothing, other than cleaning & maintenance to get this cart running.

I found a 36v motor on craigslist for $50 locally. I'm thinking that would be a cheap hop-up for her cart (along with some heavier & newer battery cables), based on what I'm reading here.
Then I could upgrade the controller later for something with a larger capacity than the stock 225 amp limitations...
