Here is a Voltage vs State of Charge chart.

To get an accurate SoC reading, let the batteries rest for about 12 hours after charger shuts off automatically.

A fully charged 36V battery pack should read 38.2V and a fully charged 6V battery should read 6.37V
Also, all 6 batteries should read within 0.1V of each other.

To check SoC while out and about on cart, let the batteries rest about 10 minutes before reading voltage.

Ok thanks. I noticed he sets his dial to the V to measure Voltage. But the DVM in the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-LCD-...item43b950e39e doesn't have show a V along with the outer numbers?

If you look closely, going counter-clockwise you'll see a "V" with a symbol that I can't make out, but it may be AC or DC, followed by numbers 600, 200, 20, 2, 200m (which is 200 milli-volts). The "V" is to the far left. These are peak values. You generally select the lowest value that you are sure you won't exceed. If in doubt, start at 600, then work your way down.

Hopefully the manual it comes with will explain it, but you may get a poor English translation such as, "mustn't to push the button wrong or bring great disgrace to you family".

I'll have to break down and buy me a couple one day. At that price they're disposable. I have a Fluke and a WaveTek.
