Re: speed forward and reverse
Sounds like you've got a Marathon resistor cart, and without major modifications, 10-12 MPH is about all that it will do.
As for being faster in one direction than the other, it happens. Try cleaning/adjusting the contacts in F/R switch. All of them are used in both directions, but the movable contacts touch different stationary contacts and they might not match up as well in one position as they do in the other position. Also, some motors simply run faster clockwise than they do counteclockwise (or vice versa). In that case, you can swap the A1 & A2 cables to get the faster speed in the forward direction. (Swapping the S1 & S2 cables will also work) |

Re: speed forward and reverse
ok. thanks. it is a rather old cart and a lot of the connections on the solenoid and on the resistor coils and also the connections on the motor are kinda rusty. they are tight and solid but rusty nonetheless. should i put new connector ends?

Any cables or connections that get hot need to be fixed. (The resistor coils do get hot, so the cables connected to the resistor box will pick up some heat from the coils.) |
