looking for 12 volts in reverse

I ran across these small led back up lights and I got the idea of putting them on the cart powered by the reverse side of the f/r switch. The back up buzzer's orange wire which is the coming off the 2nd limit switch only seems to have 4.7 volts when put to a common ground . The other red wire coming off the buzzer goes to the solenoid but that is not switched by the f/r.

Is there a way to do this or its a good idea that won't work ?

There's got to be a way to do it...
Could you somehow mount a switch near the back side of the FR switch that gets either pushed or released when you move it to Reverse? Do you have the lever or rocker?

Hmmm, this might be the perfect application for my X'mas tree lights solution (from when I did my headlights/& LED tail lights in series). Wire 4 little 12v "backup lights" in series and mount them to a decent looking bracket. Then extract the power directly from the backup buzzer circuit (which I think is 48v) and VOILA a cute little string of backup lights without wiring separate switches or making power conversions etc.

Its a DS series cart with a lever

Funny - the buzzers are labeled 9-48vdc, so in my head, I had made the assumption that a 48v label wouldn't be there unless that's the voltage it would be seeing (or with a lever, maybe 24v - the reverse voltage). 4.7 volts just seems weird. Does the red wire (which is not switched) lead somewhere from the solenoid to something other than pack negative?

I think this might work ... don't know your 12 v set up
but i know you can get a 12v back-up alarm/buzzer

CTD : I was only getting 4.7 volts off the orange wire going to a dead ground . the red wire on the buzzer is live also. is the orange a ground ?

If you follow that diagram, Red should be 48+ and Orange is 48- when the circuit is in reverse.. You could get a 48 volt relay to be the light switch and then get power from where ever for the lights.
