Default Adding 25" Tires 1996 Club Car DS

Hey guys I built a 96 club car from the ground up. It is a 48 volt cart, all "0" gauge wires, stock 275 amp Curtis controller, 205/50/10 tires, and a 36v motor. The cart runs great I get an average of 23mph and it runs all day. I am getting ready to install an 8" lift with 25x11-10 goodyear tires. I expect to lose some torque. Do I need to upgrade the motor or controller?

If the circumference of the new tires, and this can be diameter also, is much more than the old, as a matter of geometry, yes you do.

You are going to loose about 35-40% of your torque.

You will not be happy with the way the cart performs if you do not make major changes to your carts drive system, IE= motor, controller, solenoid, FnR

Everything I drive on is absolutely flat. I am going to scale it back a bit and go with a 6" lift and 22" tires.

I guess you could try it and see if it meets your needs. If not, get with Scottyb...

Good idea - there is a big difference in performance between the 22 and 25 inch tires. 25s just seem to cut the carts off at the knees.

Thanks Scotty. I always try to go too big and it costs too much.
