Default Need a tire plugged??

I have an off-road tire on a 2002 club car DS. I have gone to 3 tire centers so far and none are willing to work on the tire. It has a screw in between the tread. It holds air just fine, but I would like to get it plugged. The hole is not in the side wall.
Why won't they work on it? I know i could get a plug kit, but I have never used one before and for $10 or $15, I rather have an experienced service tech do it.....

Thoughts?

GUMPBUCK,

I had a similiar problem one time, I just had my local golf cart shop put a tube in the tire for $25. It will never leak again. I would just keep calling around, maybe a small gas station? Did you tell them its for a golf cart?

Or could put a patch on the inside.

Buy a plug kit, its easypeasy and works fine for cart use. These aren't highway speed tires, so no danger there.

A plug kit is extremely easy to use and works quite well. I always carry one on my Harley and one time it saved me tons of grief way out in the boonies when my tire found a roofing nail. The kit I carry also has little CO2 cartridges to re-inflate.

I had the same problem with a local tire shop.

This is the reasoning they gave me:

A golf cart tire is not a radial tire and will expand when it it is filled. If they put a patch in it, once you pump up the tire the patch will pop off. If they use a pug in it the same this will happen and the pug wont fill the hole as it will get bigger then the pug can fill and it will just leak.

I just went and got a tube from a local shop and put it in myself. Solved the problem and it was only $10.70 with tax for the tube. Cheaper then getting a whole new tire.

Steve is right, a tube is the cheapest fix.

Thanks Guys!!

I spoke to another shop and they are willing to take a look at it. Since it's currently not leaking, they asked if maybe the screw is not all the way through the tire?
I wondering if I should even mess with it? If it ain't broke, why fix it?
The shop is not a golf cart shop and I'm sure they would not have a tube for this tire. Based on the comment about tire expansion, how big an issue would a plug be?
The cart is for a buddy's wife. He is overseas for now and she won't be using it much. Still though, I would prefer to leave her with a tire that is reliable.......
Undecided???????

I got the tube from a tire shop, not a golf cart shop, i would say it should be fixed because if she is using the cart and it goes flit while riding it could cause a bigger problem.

I run my cart where there is a bunch of thorns. Slime works good for me. one quart in each tire. You can buy it by the gallon. The stuff works pretty good.
