Rear axle lube
Ok I would like to change the lube (oil) in my rear axle of my 2003 CC DS 48v. I would like to use a synthetic oil. Any recommendations? What is the stock oil?
Thanks, M |

Re: Rear axle lube
Yep it calls for 22 oz. (0.67 liters) SAE 30 WT. API Class SE, SF, or SG Oil (or higher). I am curious if anyone ever used Synthetic in the case? Several folks have mentioned it is a way to pick up a little top speed.

Re: Rear axle lube
I've used synthetic in my gasser transaxle since I bought my cart.
and if I had a sparky, I'd use it on that also! I'm not sure if there would be a noticeable speed increase, but, I'm sure that it would be protected better then conventional oil! .02 |

Re: Rear axle lube
Thanks for the reply, I would like to use it in my "Sparky". Just not sure which to use that is SAE 30 WT. API Class SE, SF, or SG Oil.

Re: Rear axle lube
Yep... (straight weight) SAE 30 motor oil is difficult to find in synthetic! but, it is out there!
Here's an oil/gear lube viscosity chart that may help you. viscosityChart.jpg |

Re: Rear axle lube
Motor oil only in an engine. (which you don't have)
SAE 30 straight weight motor oil, (OEM suggested) OR... gear lube in an electric transaxle is fine! To be honest... oil viscosity has always confused me... Be patient, hopefully someone else will chime in when they wake up! |
