My Saturn speedometer says it will do 120MPH. But I don't. The best speed reducing method is using common sense.

After some discussions with fellow members I decided to go back to a SPDT switch with a 3k resistor inline on one pole and direct wire on the other. I will attach to the white line of the F-R micro switch number 3. I will also give Sergio's hidden kill switch a try. I love magnets. :-)

Excellent! We love results and photos. It should also serve as a good how-to for folks wanting to slow down a cart, as there has been a lot of discussion but no real guide or pics of how it's done.

When working with Reed switches, do not cut or bend the leads, they are acctually a functional part of the sensitivity of the switch.

You should solder wires to the leads and leave them comming out axially from the Reed switch for the best sensitivity.

Installed a 3.6K resistor in line. Used the old light switch the previous owner install as a resistor bypass. With switch off 24.7 MPH on test run. With switch on 34.2 mph same test run. If you switch on while in reduced speed mode it increases both torque and speed. I am going to call this a complete success.

With some cleanup, a potential sticky?? Seems we hear a lot of guys with fast carts asking how to slow 'em down.

Instead of a "one speed" resistor , could this have been done with some type of volume control/potentiometer so you could "dial in" the desired speed?.....
say your on it , crank it all the way , wife or friend maybe 3/4 and if the kids want to drive it it could be cranked down to around 15 mph or so.....I know NOTHING about electronics but just wondering....

I would think it could but you would have to have a very good control. Most controls are not that precise.

Sounds like a great invention. You now have two speed electronic shifter.
