Battery charge issues??
Hello all! I have a 2008 ez go txt series cart 36 volt. I replaced all batteries a month ago with US Batteries 1800. I also replaced the f/r switch two weeks ago due to it getting really hot and smelling burnt. I also changed the ring terminals on the cables to the f/r switch due to some corrosion and just because. The switch is the standard switch. All was well with the cart until a week or so ago when the batts are only lasting an hour or so then the cart needs to be recharged. Once the charger is plugged in it charges for 1 1/2 - 2hrs and charger shuts off and state of charge meter says full. I have tried three different chargers with same results. Also I noticed the other night that when I press accelerator pedal with lights on the lights go dim. I have never noticed this before now. After installing new batts and standard cables, I did install a stereo and speakers in the cart, but thanks to this forum, stereo is powered by a 12 vole accessory batt. I have a volt meter, though not that hip on using it,just not sure what to check or replace. Great forum BTW I have been learning from you guys for quite some Tim now.. Thanks, Isaac

Re: Battery charge issues??
We are going to need individual battery voltage readings, after 12 hours off the charger if possible.

Re: Battery charge issues??
if you tried 3 chargers I guess its not that. we need the exact voltages of the individual batteries and the entire pack. it sounds like your batteries are dead and need to be recharged right away. it sounds like you may have one bad battery that is drawing down the entire pack

Re: Battery charge issues??
You have undersized batteries that may be chronically undercharged.
The standard 36V battery pack consists of six 225AH 6V batteries. You have six 208 AH 6V batteries. Most chargers are designed to charger Trojan batteries and Trojan clones. A different charge profile is needed for US Battery batteries. If the Trojan charge profile is used, the USB batteries will not be fully charged. Fortunately, if they are simply being undercharged, they may recover with proper charging. Attached is a Voltage vs SoC chart for US Battery batteries. The voltages on the chart are taken 12 hours after the charger shuts off. |

Re: Battery charge issues??
Do you have instructions for your voltmeter? What kind is it? You need to set it to measure DC volts

Re: Battery charge issues??
Charger shut off at around 10:30 pm last night but stayed connected to cart till 10:00 this morning. These are the voltages:
1. 6.45 2. 6.44 3. 6.40 4. 6.43 5. 6.26 Total. 38.3 |

Re: Battery charge issues??
What is the voltage on the sixth battery?
1 thru 4 have expected voltage, but that could be because battery 5 is low and allowing the rest to charge to a higher voltage. |

Re: Battery charge issues??
Also how would one change the charge profile you spoke of in the earlier reply?

Quote:
What charger(s) do you have? The first attached PDF file is the US Battery charging instructions showing the recommended charge profiles for various types of battery chargers. The second PDF is the Technical Service Bulletin about the undercharging issue. |
