98 CC DS, New Bats, Powerdrive 17930 charger

Bought new Crown CR165 batteries for my 1998 Club Car DS. I hooked everything up correctly and when I charged batteries for first time the charger quickly went to over 60 volts. The batteries were in charge for 8-10 hours. I then drive the cart about three miles and then went to charge again. The charger went to over 60 volts again within an hour or two and would not shut off. I read that it may take up to 16 hours. I unplugged the charger after 19 hours and I am now going to wait 12 hours to check individual battery voltages.
I am guessing that maybe my OBC is malfunctioning or the battery charger. How do i trouble shoot this?What is the proper ay to break in new batteries and how long should I charge if charger will not automatically shut off?

Sounds like something is not right with batteries. Could you post a photo of battery area?

Sounds like polarity may be reversed somewhere

Trust me the bats are hooked up correctly. I did find a loose connection on the gray wire going in to the back of the charging socket. I don't think this was the problem because I think an open on this lead would prevent the charger from starting? The bats are settling in nicely after the long charge. It has been 4 hours off charge and I am getting 8.57+/- .03 volts. I think the charger should have a timer??

I'd check the connections and make sure everything is clean, tight, and correct

First test the battery in your volt meter, if it is low you will get strange readings.

Next the best I can tell from the photo, some of the ends on your cables look questionable. Seeing this I would suggest checking the cables going the controller and motor.

One other thought. If you happen to have a bad cell in one of the batteries, and it can happen with new batteries. That would cause problems.
