Club car issues
I have an old club car "A" model that I'm trying to troubleshoot. This cart has had an issue ever since I picked it up, when going up hills, the cart will go to a creeping pace and often will completey stop. If I let off the pedeal and re apply it will creep further. This has been going on for about a year and recently my wife was driving it and the cart just flat quit running. She said she smelt a burning type smell. When I turn the key or push the pedal I get no sounds ( no clicking). When i switch the forward\ reverse lever, i get the buzz sound like it is in reverse. I tested all the batteries and they are all putting out proper voltage. I replaced all the batteries when I purchased it about 2 years ago. I also went through all the terminals and made sure everything was tight with no corrosion. Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Club car issues
In order for us to help you we need more information...can you find the serial number of the original cart or if that is not possible some pictures showing the type of system...or the year...or something to get us started in the right direction to help you. What voltage is the cart 36, 48...look at the charger. Does it have a forward and reverse lever? Do you have a resistor coil with a bunch of solenoids? Give us what you can...then we can help.

Re: Club car issues
I would check batteries first. Check water level. Charge until charger cuts off, then let sit for 12 hours and test voltage with DVM as a pack, and then individually. Then connect the DVM to the pack, and drive. watch the voltage drop when going up a hill. after that connect the DVM to each individual battery and go up the hill 6 more times. I know it sounds tedious, but it will rule out a bad battery. I bought a set of Crown CR190 last summer, and had one cell that was always lower on water, ended up having a bad cell. took it back and got a new battery under warranty.

Re: Club car issues
Others will chime in...but it looks like an 1988 cart with the multiple solenoid system...they are prone to failure and ScottyB has a solid state upgrade kit that will make the cart dependable. The best way to make it fast would be to change to 48v but that means new batteries, new charger, ect. Very doable depending on your budget.

Re: Club car issues
this is an '81 cart from what I understand by the serial numbers, and yes, it has the multi solenoid system.
