Default Yamaha G1 Starter

I have an 83 g1. I can not get the motor to turn over. One second it was fine, parked it and two day later it wont start. First i thought it was the battery because it is old. The battery is reading 12.8 but when i hit the gas it drops to about 4 volts. changed the battery and it does the same thing. all connections look good including the ground. any one know if there is a way to test the Starter before i purchase one?

If the battery drops below 10 volts it probably wont turn over. What did the voltage drop to after a charge? Sounds like a battery is in order. Also, when you get a battery, jack up the cart, put your volt meter on the battery, start and rev up the engine, if the charging circuit is working correctly, you should have a reading of 14.5 to 15.5 volts. Good luck

Well thanks for the input...it was the battery. Much cheaper than the starter.
