Default G1 popping fuses

I just bought a 1984 G1. It seems to burn both fuses whenever it is driven a distance at speed. (1/8 - 1/4 mile). First of all there were 10 amp fuses in it when I got it. Are these the correct size fuses?
Second: I turned up the governor. And it seemed to start doing it after that. Not sure why that would be, but does that give anyone an idea of why the cart is doing this.?
Oh yeah...... every time it happens; you get to where you are going, shut it down, and the next time you go to use it both the fuses are burnt. It has never happened when it's underway.
thanks ..I'm new to cart technology

does it have lights or any thing like that? if so make sure all ground wires are connected to neg side of battery. not grounded to frame if they are then that's why it is blowing fuses..

Okay heres what is is repeatedly doing. If you drive it a distance (400-500yds) flat out, it keeps running fine. As soon as you turn the key off OR try to turn it ti reverse it pops the fuse (Neg-black wire). Anybody have a thought? (could it be the on/off/rev switch itself? gotta' be something simple. Just would rather not randomly start replacing everything.
ps: it doesn't seem to happen on just short (100-200yd) hops around the property. at least I haven't seen it happen YET!

Sounds like a short somewhere with the switch as you describe. Start at the switch pulling wires, cleaning connections, and look for anything that seems to be shorting out. And if anything is grounded to the frame, it will cause this problem.

I traced the wires thru out the whole cart. Found that the wire bundle coming back (or going too) the 3 way ignition switch passed right in front of tail piece end. And had been in fact touching it at times. Cut open bundle an saw that 2 wires (red, and one of the whites had been burnt thru on the insulation, and may have been shorting out aftre the tailpipe got good and hot and expanded into them. Just a real good theory. I will repair tomorrow and let y'all know. Funny how it would keep running and not refuse to work until you shut it thru "OFF".
we will see
Does this sound feasible to anyone else?
