Re: Working on a Yamaha for a Good Friend
Update:
I got a carb from a-mazon. Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RZF1TG...roduct_details It's not running perfect , But it is definitely better. I can cruise slow and run wide open. The only difference, Now it sputters at wide open and above idle. Also small backfire once in awhile. It would not sputter wide open with the old carb But wide open is all the old carb would run at I changed the oil in the oil tank with fresh oil. It was very thick and smelled worst than the new oil. I drained the gas tank and filled with fresh non-ethonal gas. I poured the gas in a clear 5 Gallon glass jug It was real (Orange) I poured this in my old tractor It will run on anything. The sputter then got a little bit better. I am trying to do one thing at a time so I can tell the differences. Now I ordered a new spark plug, It will be here tommorrow, so that is my next step. Should I replace the ignition coil? I am not one to just throw parts at a problem. Because sometimes the one that's on it is better than the one you buy. Thanks for everyone's help. . |

Re: Working on a Yamaha for a Good Friend
I would really recommend pre-mixing the oil and fuel. Oil pumps go bad in one of two ways, either stuck wide open (too much oil) or closed (no oil, seized engine).
Use a good quality oil. I like amsoil or klotz. I like the way klotz smells Like you said, start simple. Ditching the oil pump is the very first thing I do on any 2 stroke I own. |

I was thinking about this very thing. Is the oil still mixing correctly?? So just a little more insite into ( My ) deal with this project. I am trying to fix this for a friend. They are going sell it afterwards to someone I know. So if it were mine, I would probably premix the gas as you suggested. Are these oil pumps still available? If so , Do they work correctly.? I will suggest this to the new owner I seen klotz at our wally world. Thanks . |

Re: Working on a Yamaha for a Good Friend
Put new spark plug in.
Not much change in low speed . But it does not backfire wide open now. Found a loose wire on the coil. I put a new terminal on it. It still stutters and lightly backfires at low speed. Sometimes it starts quicker in Reverse than forward? I am still driving it around to run some of the gremlins out . |

I am still trying to get this cart going
I returned the amazon carb. I am going to try another one? My Question is : Do the Reed valves have gaps in them when you pull them out? Or should they be closed (Shut) tight.? reed1.jpg reed2.jpg reed3.jpg . |
