Battery testing basics
Sorry if this is too basic but I couldn't find this in previous threads. I am new to electric carts. The cart is an 05 Club Car Prec 4X12 Volts. How do I test the batteries. (equip needed etc) I'm far from a professional so I wouldn't be able to invest in expensive equipment.
I have always received excellent direction from the people on this site for my gas carts so I thank you in advance |

Re: Battery testing basics
Digital volt meter is all you need, but you will need to spend 50 bucks for a good one. Dont buy one of those cheap 6 dollar ones, those are very inaccurate.
The hard part is interpeting the voltage readings and when and how you take them. Thats why I always ask the poster to post the numbers for proper interpetation. |

Re: Battery testing basics
You should use a hydrometer to test the batteries after you put a full charge on them.Let them sit overnite and then test them. You can buy a good one at autozone or advanced auto for a reasonable price. The directions will tell you how to use it.You can also get a nice voltmeter at sears for around 25 bucks. You will need these tools to maintain your electric car.Hope this helps.

Re: Battery testing basics
you know a good volt meter is one of the most important tools if not the most important you,ll need for working on an elec. cart so there i spared no expense i got a fluke that i paid 199.00 for but not only is it awsome to the bone for elec. carts its great for gas ones also this thing is loaded with even a clamp for pinpointing RPM,s for gas carts man i can,t tell you the things this tool does i i beleive thats the last place to save a buck for getting accurate readings its pinpoint accurate........anyways besides that a good load tester and hydrometer are important you don,t have to go all out but i have been thur my share of 10 dollar to fifty doller volt meters and while i,m kinda hard on tools because i do a lot of work on elec carts after 10 pm till 6 am some of my stuff gets beat up but this fluke has been abused but still works like day 1 which is 4 years ago but with these 3 tools you,ll use them more than any other tool in your box................................
