Hey all! Speed up my G9
Hey all I just picked up a really nice stock 1994 g9 and I want more speed I have replaced belts, filters, air box straps, plug and fluids. Need to tear down and clean the carb and install an inline filter.
I don't want to lift it and install taller tires which I know will increase top end and slow down the low end. I am also aware of the clutch spring upgrade to help low end but my plan for this cart is to stay at the stock height. I have adjusted the governor about 1/4" and didn't really notice an increase. Is it safe to tighten the nut all the way? Do I need to do anything else when adjusting the governor? How much mph increase should I expect? Any affordable tips would be appreciated! Thanks |

Re: Hey all! Speed up my G9
Find the governor arm (behind and below the muffler) and do this to it. Remove the threaded rod, and flip the spring around to the front side of the arm. The governor will still function, and you will get around 20+ mph speed. This works safely on all G2-G22, will damage YDRA G29. You could also just do the "zip tie trick" shown in the "governor mods" stickie at the top of the "yamaha gas" page, that will get you about 19mph.

Re: Hey all! Speed up my G9
Thanks! I will look into these suggestions. I don't want to do anything that will cause damage to the cart.

Re: Hey all! Speed up my G9
Then forget about totally disabling the governor. That thing is old, it probably wont appreciate running full throttle with uncontrolled rpms, at the minimum, it would shorten its lifespan.

Re: Hey all! Speed up my G9
You don't want damage? Leave the governor alone then... Talk to Plowman's and get the clutch upgrades or go Big Block
