Default Bad OBC or Batteries?

I purchased a used 2004 CC DS IQ. I plugged it in to the charger the first day and the charger started at 15 amps, but remained at 5 amps about 20 hours later. That was my first red flag that something may be wrong.

I checked the batteries and 5 were at 8.4-8.5v and one was a 8.1v. I have little experience with batteries, but I am deducing that the batteries are not great and that one may be bad.

I want to make sure that the issue is either the batteries or the OBC. What is the best way to single out the problem? My hesitation on deciding to just swap the batteries is that the charger remained at 5 amps after 16 hours. From what I've read, the OBC should have turned off the charger at 16 hours.

All help is greatly appreciated!

You're right about the batteries. 5 are at 90% and one is essentially dead at 55%. Make sure the electrolyte level is 1/4 to 1/2 inch above the plates and run it through another charge cycle. See if that low one improves at all.

If you can find one used battery, install it and recharge the pack. I think your OBC is fine, just not seeing a full charge on the pack.

What is the date code on the batteries? It can be found in different places on different brands.

Thanks, Tom! I left it charging this morning. I'll check it when I get home. Should be approximately 9 hours into the charge.

I had my wife check the date code and they seem to be from 4/17 (D7 on Powertron negative post).

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of golf cart batteries fail at or near the 5 year mark.

Good luck, Felipe!

Keep in mind, if money is no object lithium is an excellent choice.

I installed new batteries and left them charging overnight. Does anybody know at what voltage the OBC stops the charger? They were at 58v on charger and bubbling this morning. I unplugged the charger for a bit and plugged it back in. Currently at 58.2v.

Charger turned off! I'm guessing somewhere near 59v. Last time I checked it before it turned off it was at 58.8v.
