1. what hp this engine is 2. what compression would be "good" and what would be "bad" requiring rebuild? THANKS for any help. |

Re: robin 244cc engine spec's
the governor really only limits the top end RPM's, so if you're getting the RPM's to "fly" on level ground, then you need to look at your clutches as a potential trouble spot (IE not opening or closing - downshifting - correctly) when climbing hills ... Clutches are funny (or perhaps frustrating is a better word) in that they often still work in the directions needed to gear "up" for speed when they are weakening and won't do as well for power or gearing "down" - it has a lot to do with the associated RPM's that the driven (axle) clutch is subject to in either extreme of operation as a rule of thumb, but neither clutch can immediately be ruled out.
HOWEVER - before depression sets in, you may want to check your belt for undue wear or stretching, it's also a possibility that it's maintaining the required tension to go fast (which translates into a lighter load on it) but is slipping under load due to stretching or on the other extreme binding under load due to wear and not allowing your clutches to function properly. Were it me, I'd pop $30 for a new belt if yours looks worn at the edges or if you can roll it off the clutches fairly easily (it should be a minor struggle but still fairly easy) - in many cases where clutches are going you can diagnose it by jacking the cart and watching them as you run it, but if they are doing fine on the flats and only failint to work correctly on the hills then confirming the diagnosis is a bit harder. Perhaps Dave can jump in and shed some light here - he may have a trick up his sleeve to streamline the diagnostics |

Re: robin 244cc engine spec's
Let's hope I can get lucky here. I rolled/pulled the belt off with 4 fingers! That being the case I'll opt for a new belt. Any place to BUY or a model # as since this thing is old I don't have a clue of part #, compatible parts ,etc. 83 Marathon 3 wheeler/trike. Gas, obviously.
While we're at it any models that a Canopy TOP and Brackets would cross refer on this unit. Thanks Guys. I really appreciate it. |
