Round 2 - Battery Pack Health?
OK, so, decided to do my upgrade in two steps. As recommended in my previous thread, I'm starting with the DPI charger to replace my CC PD3. Sold the PD3 quickly on eBay so I ordered the DPI the same day. Since there was an overlap there, I have been without a charger since last Friday when I shipped the PD3. DPI is to be delivered today. Also, since I had no charger and didn't want to run down the batts without one, I figured this would be a good time to check the no use/self discharge rate. 12 hours after the full charge I was at 50.9V. Now after exactly 5 days after full charge, with no use, and the switch in the Tow position, I'm at 49.6V. I didn't bother with individual battery checks as if one is shot, they are all going as I'm looking forward to upgrading them anyway.
Last piece of info is that they came with the cart down on water about 1/4 to 1/2" below the top of the plates in late August. I watered them shortly after getting the cart. Since then it's only had around the house short runs (5-10 minutes then back on the charger) and one camping trip with longer runs (Lazy Days RV in Tampa with 126 acres of campground and dealership to explore - 30-1hr then back on charger.) Upon returning from Tampa water was just at the top of the plates again, some just a hair below. Seems excessive in such a short period of time and little use... So, being that I know nothing about self discharge rates, correct at rest voltages, and electrolyte outgassing rates, I was hoping to get some advice from the collective here. Thoughts? |

Re: Round 2 - Battery Pack Health?
Battery water consumption varies with use, temperature, charging, etc. I check mine monthly and that seems to be about right for my usage. My batteries are about 4 years old now and they are still going strong.

Re: Round 2 - Battery Pack Health?
That is a slightly higher than average drop for the time period. I don't see the age of the batteries in your post and am not familiar with your other post but the age can dictate the amount of water usage and ability to maintain charge. I'd guess they are towards the end of their lifespan, probably the last 25-30%. And by that I mean that if the pack last for 4 years, then going into year 3 the batteries are in the final 25% of their life and the performance will be as such, as well as water usage because of charge time and temp.

Re: Round 2 - Battery Pack Health?
Sorry, they are between 3-4 years old (stamped 2012) and are Club Car branded batts in a 2010 DS. Thanks for the thoughts thus far.
