precedent motor wires are different sizes?
2011 precedent "PH11" advance motor
I have my precedent motors rebuilt locally here. Usually, he drops one off to me, and i give him my old motor, as a core exchange. Here is my question, I installed a rebuilt motor today, and when hooking up the wires, the two #10 wires for the motor have smaller terminals on them. The 4 new studs on the motor are all the same larger size, so the #10 wire terminals are too small to go over the bigger studs. Can i just cut off the small terminal ends and recrimp some larger ones on, and be ok? Will this cause any problems? Another question, instead of reterminating new terminals on the end of the wires, can i use butt splices and splice a short piece of #10 wire onto the existing wire ( i have a couple pieces of wire that already have ends on them that will fit over the studs? |

Re: precedent motor wires are different sizes?
I would not splice them unless needed as you are just creating another joint that could fail. Either replace the end terminals or replace the wires completely from the controller to the motor.

I would replace the complete wires. That way if you ever need to go back just change wires. Also I would silver solder the ends and heat shrink them.

Re: precedent motor wires are different sizes?
The newly-delivered one is a Sepex motor and not a series one, correct?

Re: precedent motor wires are different sizes?
The motor on the cart was an EJ8-4001A and the rebuilt one is an EJ4-4001.
You can crimp new 5/16" lugs in place of the 1/4" lugs or replace the wires, but don't splice them. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...escription.jpg |
