Default Charger details

My '99 DS has been sitting for a few months (right after installing new batteries), and I had to move it yesterday and the warning light came on. I plugged in the trusty Power Drive charger, and no click.

I don't see anything obvious in the charger, but without knowing how the OBC talks to the charger, it's a little mysterious. The crappy schematic I've found online for the charger makes it look like the blue wire from the cart controls the relay.

When I measure the charging connector on the cart (with no charger), I get 47v between + and -, and 12v on the control line. When I plug in the charger, the voltage I measure inside the charger is only 35V, so something non-obvious is happening. It got dark before I could do any more, so I'm not positive the control line is still on when the cable is connected.

Can someone explain the theory of operation of the charging system? A better quality schematic would be nice too!

I'll have to take the charger 50 miles to a dealer to see if the charger is good or not.

the OBC controls the charger , as you drive your OBC monitors the amount of volts you use and when you plug the cart in it tells the charger how much energy it needs for a full charge

if it is left for a while it may need to be reset

try resetting the OBC
Quote:
Resetting the Club Car On board computer - reset the OBC

To reset the OBC the following must be done in this order:

If no Tow/Run Switch then skip that step

• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse to Neutral
• Tow/Run Switch to Tow
• Disconnect the Battery NEGATIVE (–) wire from the Battery Minus terminal on the battery pack.
• Put the Tow/Run to Run
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Reverse
• Key Switch to On
• Press the throttle pedal down (hold it to the floor)

The reverse buzzer will sound (sometimes) and go off in about 30 seconds.
Leave the cart like that for 5 min to cause the OBC to reset.
After 5 min release the throttle pedal

To reconnect the OBC back into the system:
• Key Switch to Off
• Forward/Reverse Switch to Neutral
• Tow/Run switch to Tow
• Reconnect the Batt – wire to the battery minus
terminal on the battery pack.
• Tow/Run switch to Run
• Key Switch to ON
plug charger in
if it starts let it go till it shuts off
if it still does not start let us know and we can do other tests
