Default 1998 resistor cart - motor problem

Last weekend my cart stopped working and I found a burned up, disconnected cable to the S1 motor stud. The cable was pretty burnt up but still had continuity so i relugged it and reconnected cable, still no go. Also, the motor itself was pretty hot.

I have a few other motors (3) I've been hoarding and one actually fit perfectly. Hooked it all up and the wheels only slightly turn up on jack stands and no go when I set her down. This tells me original motor is toast and "other" motor may be jacked up also or simply incompatible? See pics below, Textron is original motor. Ive looked over everything else and all appears to be functioning properly. Is simply my orignial motor toast?

I've read on this site where electric motors are easy to fix but I'm still intimidated to tear into it and make any problems worse. Anyone have simple walkthrough instructions on repairing a non-reactive motor? Or would it be cheap and worth my wild to have local shop (Houston area) repair original motor?

Thanks in advance and hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day Weekend!

First I would confirm that both motors are the same type, Series or Sepex. Tearing into a motor isn't a big deal, but besides brushes and the bearing, there's not much a typical user can repair if the rotor or stator are fried.
