heavy duty F&R switch hard to turn

2002 EZGO txt with workhorse bed. I replaced the motor/solenoid/controller/cables/F&R switch last month. The F&R switch is still pretty stiff going back and forth compared to the original. That it would loosen up over time but it really hasn't. If I back off the nut in the back to loosen it then it sometimes will not go forward/reverse. Any ideas what I can do? Wonder if that bolt can be greased even though there is 400 amps going through that switch coming from the controller.

Afraid to say but ya gotta take the good with the bad, good that it makes a great no power loss connection, bad that it uses spring pressure to accomplish this which in turn makes it hard to operate. I'd recommend a good smathering of dielectric grease on the workings and mating surfaces, lubricate the shaft with a good slippery grease of wheel bearing type, re-assemble and hope for the best.

I really hate using wd40 as it crudes up later.

Try one of the custom "shifters". Check my build thread for a pic. Works great. Little to no felt resistance and it adds a bit of "custom".

Thanks for the idea on the custom shifter.
Looks like a 200.00 Jakes or a 25.00 caddy shift.
Anyone have this caddy shift and what do they think of it.

Use dielectric grease on the FNR switch. Works well and will last alot longer than WD40 will.

Agreed. WD-40 is bad more often than good. Often it simply "melts" good grease then leaves whatever was supposed to be lubricated bare. Can't tell you how many non-buggy repairs I've made over the years on rotating parts that should have been greased, but were stripped of their grease by WD-40.
