Removing the pan isn't a big deal, but if you choose not to go that route, you should try and pump out the old oil.

Replaced the oil this afternoon and still getting a loud whinning noise. Any ideas on what it might be? Could it be something in the motor? Checked both hubs and they are good.

most of the time it is one of the input shaft bearings - there's 2 of them, or a motor bearing, but there is about 8 bearings in the rear, most of the time it's the input bearings

Do you hear any noise when you first apply power like an audible "click" or anything? Dose it get louder the faster you go or about the same pitch throughout the acceleration? Does it quiet down once at full speed or with little load like down hill? I am leaning towards what RIB33024 says and it can be a lot of work to figure out what is bad with all the bearings. Might consider a new rebuilt rear end.

I replaced all bearings in seals when I changed the oil. It's not really that hard. I don't think it took more than a couple of hours.

Just curious roughly what this cost for all the parts and also is a press required?

$172, but I bought everything from shopezgo.com. I wanted to have everything before I tore it apart. I'm sure the bearings could have been purchased a lot cheaper. No press was required. I replaced the bearing in the motor and inspected the brushes. That bearing has to be heated, so I used a heat gun. Everything else was carefully tapped in using a plastic mallet. I either used wood or sockets to protect the bearings while tapping them into place.

The instructions on the link provided are pretty detailed.

I had a sealed bearing go bad, and it was grinding. I decided to replace them all, since it wasn't that much money, but I probably could have left the flooded bearings alone. Being a 1998 and the third owner, I didn't know how many miles they had on them.
