48v txt controller decision
New to the forum and carts. I have a basic course 05 model ezgo txt series with back seat. It came with a d&d motor 170-001-0001, stk speed but 20% more tq. I've purchased 6 new t-875 trojans and a complete set of 2ga cables. I'm getting a hd f&r and 400/1000 solinoid. I'm undecided on tires and lift but it will be 20-23" tires. I have a new 48v dpi charger as well.
I need some experienced suggestions on the controller selection. I figure if I'm going to do it I might as well go all out. I'm torn between the ge 700 and the spm 500 or 600. I like the idea of the ge due to the quick adjustability of it and price. Turning it down for the kids quickly would be nice without draging out the laptop. Is the 500 enough? Is the spm worth the coin? Wheelies sounds fun if possible. It will be used mostly on road with some moderate hills at times. I'm an old hot rodder so hauling tail is in my blood! Thanks for your advice. |

Re: 48v txt controller decision
howard, I have the SPM-48500, which has a peak output of 575 amps....and I love it....I have all the other things you mentioned, but my motor is different. I am running 23" tires and a 6" lift. but the expert you need to talk to is scottyb. and check out his site, he is one of our sponsors.
http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Home_Page.html oh and btw.....CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: 48v txt controller decision
Thanks for the welcome. I'm a homebrewer and beer a holic so that fridge will keep me occupied for a while!
I can get the ge 700 for the price of the spm 500. What is the real negatives of the ge to make me go with the spm? |

SPM won't fry if motor goes bad. I don't know about the GE.

Re: 48v txt controller decision
The limiting factor may be the motor. Can the motor handle the 700 amp controller?

Just got off the phone with carts unlimited. He talked me into the SPM 48500. It's hard to pass up the new technology. Can't wait to get it all in!
