Rpm limiter wiring question
Attempting to install an engine in a 1994 gas carryall 1 and the engine has a limiter with a red wire which is hooked to the ground screw, black wires that go to the coil & switch to kill engine, and a yellow wire that I have no idea where it goes.
I left the yellow wire unhooked, engine will start but seems to hesitate and bog down. Plug is very black with fluffy deposits. Also you must unhook the black wire in order for the engine to run and now can not shut off with key. I should mention that this engine was in another Cart last week and experienced no problems at all. Any help greatly appreciated |

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
Wait a minute!!!
I think your talking about a voltage regulator! (the little square box in the black, electrical components box) Black - to the ground screw Red - to the positive of the solenoid Yellow - to the S/G The rev limiter is on the lower front of the engine, and should have 1 brown wire with an eye loop, (ground) and a black banana plug going to the ignitor and coil/engine kill circuit! |

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
I agree voltage reg is in bottom of electrical box. This is definitely the rev limiter with the colors I stated. I have 2 more 290. Engines one cc and one ccw and they both have the brown wire to ground and black as you stated.

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
If you look on ebay under rpm limiter they show one with the colors I stated. It is for a 1991-1992 cart for $250.
Now to try to find where the wires go. |

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
So, what your saying is that your installing a pre-1992 KF82 flathead engine in a 1994 Carryall, Correct?
Is this the limiter? $_35.JPG http://www.ebay.com/itm/RPM-Limiter-...ba409c&vxp=mtr I don't know much about the KF82's, but, I thought that they didn't have a rev limiter? (That is... if I remember correctly reading what Springbok wrote!) and the only other logical place an extra wire would go to is an external ignitor. Hold on just a bit... I sent a PM to Springbok. |

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
From what I understand, 1984-1991 carts did not ever have stand alone rev limiters on them. They put rev limiters on the 1990-1991 carts but the limiter was integral to the ignition coil (not a separate unit). Stand-alone rpm limiters didn't come along until the FE motors showed up in 1992. If the eBay listing says it fits 1991-1992 that has got to be a mistake. Club Car completely changed motors between 1991-1992.

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
Looks like I stand corrected on that. It looks like the 1990-1991s did have a stand-alone limiter after all. Interesting. That must be why the ignition coils for 1984-1989 are different than 1990-1991...

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
Sorry for the late return. I don't know what year engine I have, it is ohv ccw and has the limiter I mentioned above. I installed this engine in a 1994 carryall 1 with 23" tires and grind speed gov disabled. Engine starts great but slow pick up and top
Speed of 22 mph. Plug black and fluffy. Still believe it is firing related. Will unhook rev limiter tomorrow and then rebuild carb. |

Re: Rpm limiter wiring question
With a 92+ FE290, and 23's, 22 MPH is about the max you should get!
Question.... do you have all of your intake stuff connected? (choke, air filter box, and intake tube to the carb?) |
