Default 2000 48 volt club car ds suddenly stops

I have a 48 volt ds, altrax controller, and upgraded motor, larger battery cables too, cart has run like a top for 4 years, now all of sudden, the cart will just die under power, I can hear the larger solenoid clicking, I move the F/r switch back and forth, nothing, lights all work, but the motor won't run, sometimes for hours, I go back to it, try it, and runs great, for days, then does it again! Any ideas what it might be?

Have you noticed any error codes on the controller? It could be mcor, test it for dead spots. It may have oxidized. Fnr stays in full contact to copper bars?
just ideas...

I don't think my cart has a mcor? It's a 2000.5, I could be wrong, where would it be?

Along rail under passenger side you can pull #1 and #2 off of controller to test the ohm range or if the micro switch in mcor is failing u can test by pulling 2 pin connector and short it with a paper clip. Maybe others will chime in soon

I checked my cart, Mine does not have the mocor, it has a shaft that leads
to a device in the battery area, I'm guessing this is before the mocors were installed, would this device be the issue? Ill try to take a picture of it and post it here.

Yes - that device *could* cause a dead spot (and a few other issues). You have a multi-step potentiometer, not MCOR. You *can* convert it to MCOR; OR you can pull it apart and renew/repair it as shown HERE.

BUT you did say you have an Alltrax controller & a Motor upgrade. The older DCX (Alltrax) controllers were never very happy with those multi-step pots. Since you were willing to upgrade other items - that old potentiometer should really be on the list for replacement. David at Revolution is your best bet for a kit/conversion to MCOR.

I ran this cart with all the upgraded motors/controller for at least 4 years, no issues, so maybe Ill try to replace what I have first before upgrading it. But thanks for all the help, at least I know where to start!

Sure - that's totally up to you. The good thing about those old multi-steps is that unlike a fully electronic/digital device, you can open it, clean it, measure it, inspect it, get your mitts in there, and tweak or repair it to run the way it is supposed to. The only real difference is that its not quite as smooth in gentle acceleration as a full sweep pot.
