Default New RXV build

Thank you for all your help with your replies to my RXV thread a few weeks ago.

We returned the very unstable orange 2013 RXV cart we posted about and found another builder who has ordered us a 2014 RXV.

I'm torn between lifting versus not. Really like the look but want to go fast and be safe too. If we do a spindle type lift and controller upgrade would that be a good combination? We live in a very hilly neighborhood, we are either going up or down a hill, not many flat spots inside the gates but the 35 mph road outside our neighborhood is flat. I like the idea of an on-the-fly controller that will give me the ability to adjust for optimal inside versus outside the neighborhood settings.

I'd like the ability to handle grass terrain, there's a power line path that takes us to a Publix grocery store and other shopping we'd otherwise have to drive our car to. Is there a tire that would do well at speed and handle the grassy terrain of the power line? We'd avoid this path when wet and muddy. Can the stock 2014 controller be programmed to perform well 25+ mph and maintain speed?

I don't mind paying for a controller/motor/solenoid upgrade if necessary. We are trying to keep the build around or below an 8k budget and the stereo and lights I've ordered were $1,000, the 2014 cart was 3k so I have up to 4K left to spend on everything else.

Thanks in advance.

I've got a 2014 RXV with a 3" Jakes spindle lift, double duty springs, rear flip seat, led lights, 14" rims with 23" Sahara Classic all terrain tires with the speed and acceleration turned up that runs 26 mph. Great acceleration and pulls hills as well.

Can you post or PM me a picture of your cart with that tire/wheel combo? My email is casey@waterjack.com. I like the idea of a shorter lift.

2012 RXV with a RHOX 6" lift. Dual rate springs in rear. Freedom mode, 23" wheels with 2" spacers and no issues with stability. Just make sure you properly adjust the alignment of the front wheels. Sorry about the images, my phone flips things.

Thanks for the pictures and info. What speed did freedom mode unlock with your setup? I may stick with the 3" lift and 2" spacers. Why did you add dual rate springs?

The rear springs have a helper spring that loads up when someone is sitting in the rear seat and prevents the rear from sagging. When the rear seat is empty springs are a little softer and less harsh going over bumps.

Here's a pic of the King Ranch with a 3" lift.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Which tire and wheel combo are you using?

You're better off with a 20" to 20.5" tire than a 23" tire if you have any hills, no lift required. Unless you can get your controller tweaked, you'll have a lower top end with the larger tire and it'll eventually damage the stock controller from repeated overheats.

After the right Curtis RXV controller tweaks...

With stock 18" tires aired up properly, top end capability is about 27-28 MPH. With 20-20.5" tires, top end capability is 32-33 MPH, and with 23" tires and a 350 Amp upgrade controller, top end capability is 35-37+ MPH, depending upon terrain.
