Question Can a 48v cart run on 36v?

Picked up a 96 DS reasonably. After getting it home realized why. It looks like somebody hacked in to this thing. For some reason, everything I have been reading about makes me think it should be 48v. It looks like the OBC has been bypassed and removed. There is no controller and has one solenoid. It has a round 3 pin charging plug. I cant seem seem to get this thing over 9mph. It has six 6 volt batteries. Is it possible that this is a 48v cart that has 36v batteries?

If no controller its probably a 36v resisistor cart. Maybe the high speed resistor not working.

Yep. Sounds like you have a 36 volt cart with a v-glide.

Can you post some photos of the motor and everything under the seat?

Looked at it when I got home. No V-glide or resistors. However, checked the tag on the motor and it says 48v. Also looked at the charger and it says 48v. The batteries are GC2. How did the charger even kick on?

Well you must have a controller. Post some photos of the battery compartment so we can help figure out what you have.

Round charge plug and 48 volt motor. Id say its a 48 volt cart that someone goofed up on.

It will run and charge, just not correctly as you found out. You got some work to do and some money to spend to get it right.

I will get some pics tomorrow. I cant find a controller, just the MCOR under the passenger floor and a voltage reducer behind the batteries.

Could I just install six 8 volts?

Also, 1996 had a potentiometer on the driver's side underneath. No v-Glide.
