Polypropylene or polyethylene would make a better choice. Completely resistant to battery acid and does not absorb or retain moisture, reducing the potential for rust. ABS is not resistant to battery acid.

Thin polypropylene sheet, like what is used in flexible cutting boards could make a cost effective alternative.

On the other hand, as YamahaG22GW said, frequent rinsing, even with just plain water does wonders. The baking soda isn't necessary if you rinse thoroughly.
