Default K1091 Two Stroker--Clutch engagement and RPM questions

Good morning,

I'm new to this forum and new to golf carts, but been a tinkerer with old stuff for years.

Several quesitons:

1. Engine and starts and idles when peddle is depressed (all the way to floor), but it seems to take forever to build RPM. Once it does, the cart takes off smoothly and gradually and continues to build power and speed, and eventually runs normally with decent power as well. Are there adjustments to improve the engine rpm and clutch response?

2. Can you guys help me confirm what I've got? I browsed the threads last night, and think I've got a 1991 Marathon 2-stroke (not sure which engine....a Robin?), with the oil mixture apparatus removed requiring pre-mixed fuel.

3. Does anyone have a link for a factory service manual? I found and downloaded the parts manual for the model range I think this is, but have not found a shop or service manual.

4. Here are a few pictures...not in too bad shape for it's age, and seems reasonably well maintained. I' going to try and assess what needs done first to make it perform better, and then start a gradual restoration with paint job, maybe a lift, and who knows what else! My primary use will be pulling a very small utility trailer for lawn tools, etc., and draggin the grandsons around my place in the woods, across grass, trails, and on relatively hilly terrain.

Ideas and observations welcome and appreciated!

You may want to start by checking your compression and the crank seals. It looks like it was well cared for. You can check the crank seals by removing the fuel pump and injecting some smoke into the hole in the block under where the fuel pump was. If you see any smoke coming from around the crank, then you need to replace the seals. low compression is indicative of at least an upper end rebuild.

SCCowboy,

Thanks for your reply. I'll check the compression and the seals when I start getting into this, and I'm betting it will be a little (or maybe alot) low. What's surprising to me is that once it builds up steam, it will carry two adults up hills that would be routine for the more hilly golf courses. Does the drive belt wear on the side edges? I noticed in other threads that it's supposed to be 1-3/16" wide, and mine is only about 1-1/8"...is that amount of wear significant?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi, '89-93 was (should be) a 3 PG 2 stroke motor. The belts do wear on the sides. It should be 1 3/16" wide. That would help the drive work better and is significant when you have full power, it won't help it to rev up faster. I agree with a compression test. Let us know the results All the parts are availlable still.
I haven't seen a service manual to download. There are top end rebuild instructions in the EZGO gas tech section.http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-gas-tech/

Chuckwas, from what I've read the 2 cycles with the 2 PG have a stand-up muffler, and the 3 PG engines have the lay down muffler, like yours (and mine). I'm new at this gold cart thing too, but I'm learnin'. There's a lot of knowledge and help here on this forum.
