Thumbs down 87 ezgo drive belt problem

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and have a problem. I just replaced the bumpers on my 87 ezgo (they were completely worn down) now the drive belt comes off the driven clutch when accelerating. I put it on jack stands and it stayed on so it only happens under load. I pulled the driven clutch and noticed that the pinion moves in and out about 1/8-3/16 in when rocking the cart back and forth. Could this be the problem or is it the driven clutch. Any help would be appreciated Thank you
