Default The Saga Continues - 92 3PG Top End Rebuild

I'm now starting to put the engine back together after tearing it down and ordering parts.

Even though it's not part of the top end I am following others advice and putting in new crank shaft seals.

I put the seals in late this afternoon. They were a touch thicker than the old seals but the correct size for the shaft and bore.

When I put the new seals in I put them in even with the end of the bore but because the new seals were a little thicker than the old seals the crank doesn't turn as freely now. I am assuming that it is because the seals are touching the bearings.

Will this need to be corrected by removing the seals and putting in new seals but not put them in as deep?

Or, will it loosen up with a little use?

I've always been advised that the second time it's easier. This is my first time.

It's been a long time since I worked on the 2 strokes but I was thinking it wasn't possible to do what your saying, push the seal edge into the bearing. If you have the metal edge of the seal hitting the ball bearings then it does need to be corrected.

It doesn't feel like the metal is touching the bearing. When the old bearings were in and I had the engine broken down to just the lower end, I could pull on the connecting rod and rotate the crank very easily.

After the new seals were in and I tried the same thing, there was some resistance. I put a little oil into the holes above the bearings and it was a bit easier but not free wheeling like it was before.
