Default 86 ezgo engine will not run

As I was coming down an incline my cart made a "pop" noise, not a backfire and then just stopped. I had to be towed off the course because it would not start. The engine will not run but the starter will turn the engine. It is an 86 ezgo, gas, 2 cycle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The pop may have been a crankshaft seal.

I'd be inclined to think this is what happend....... but, it could be cause by the rings letting pressure past them so you need to do a compression test both forward and backward like rib said just to see.

Angry Re: 86 ezgo engine will not run

I pulled engine and put in new different seal/ the old one did blow out. After putting back together it ran. After letting the throttle off, I heard the pop again. So I am back to taking it out again. What could be causing it to pop out the new one?
I wasn't able to do a compression test earlier.
