Default help with G16 stearing

hey guys i have a G16 golf cart and the stearing is loose, when i get up to speed it sways because of the stearing, is there anyway to tighten it up...

i see few bolts that i tighten but did not do anything

i think its where the 2 tie rods connect to the main part to make it turn because it goes up and down a little any ideas ???

If Im not mistake, you can take the top of the steering box off and pack it with grease, should take most of the play out of your steering.

Actually found this from another thread:

yup! what i did on my g9 is tap the steering box cover (carefull were so the fitting you screw in doesn't hit anything inside) then you can pump it full of grease and it makes the steering feel tighter and takes that ''clicking'' noise you hear when you turn the wheel back and forth. but you should jack up th front end and do the jam nut tightening thats the main way to do it.

o and if you plan to tap the cover use a 90 degree grease fitting, makes greaseing it a lott easyer.

yes but you won't get the same effect as if you were to tap the cover and pump it full. the middle bolt is the jam nut which is the one to adjust

Check your king pins, control arm bushings, tie rod ends and wheel bearings. There should be no play in the bearings, no king pin or control arm side play and very little up and down king pin play. I replaced both king pins, bushings, seals and control arm bushings. It wasn't to expensive and made a world of difference. Also adjust the steering box set screw for pitman arm play. No up and down play on the shaft. Rotate full left and right to check for uneven wear.

A zirk in the cover, Saber that is a good idea. Think I'll do that when mine comes back after the season is over!
Nitro, packing the steering box with grease seems to tighten it up, so it is important to do in correcting your problem, via Smallblock!!

That one part is the Pitman arm, you can adjust some of that out by adjusting the center screw with the jamb nut on it. Jack up the front of the car, loosen the jamb nut, lightly tighten the center screw till it bottoms out on the pitman shaft (part with large nut on it). Then loosen it maybe an eighth turn, then tighten the jamb nut holding the center screw with a screw driver. Turn the steering wheel lock to lock and feel for binding or rough dragging feel of the steering wheel. If you feel any, the center screw is to tight. Loosen it another 1/16 th. turn, tighten jamb nut, then lock to lock again with steering wheel. Continue this process until it is smooth lock to lock. This is as tight as you can have it, and some free play might have to be there.
But stuffing the steering box with grease like Saber said will help eliminate some of the free play.
Hope this helps, Mike
