Default G2 backfires won't start

Cart was running nice, needed 1/2 choke longer that expected, but all in all ran well. Didn't realize a mouse built nest in the air intake box causing (I think) engine to spit, sputter and finally choke out. Cleaned intake well. Now cart will not start only backfires.
Would deeply apprecaite some suggestion
Thanks

Try a new plug? Airbox on tight?

Did you clean the carb? If they build a nest in the intake and you ran it like that I would think some of it would get in the carb.

Did any of the nest (or worse...) get into the carb? Hopefully, nothing went into the engine, but if it did, the intake valve could have trapped it, and is not closing. This would cause your compression to drop to near zero, as the mixture is pushed back out through the open valve.

Put your hand over the carb intake as you crank the engine. You should feel pulses of suction only, with no blowback. Pull the spark plug wire so it won't backfire and burn you.

I'm assuming it's backfiring through the carb. If it's through the muffler, the exhaust valve might be the culprit. Pull the spark plug and test compression by putting your finger in the hole and cranking the engine. It should blow your finger out of the hole.

Keep us posted on your findings.

the magic was to clean gas tank completely( took it off cart) and replace filter, (this is an old cart and has been use as a mudder for 5 years) bottom of the tank had h2o and sludge, clean out carb, runs like a top
thanks again

Glad to hear it's running! Yeah, clean gas always helps...

Any plans for the cart?
