Default Controller question

I was wondering if I up graded to a controller from a v glide would I get any more miles per hour, I understand from reading on here it would be a better use of the batterys voltage but Im wondering about speed. I already have the Plum Quick banit new bat, 4ga cable. Any thoughts? My long term goal is to go 48 volt on that 36v motor but if the controller will add some speed I might could get that done sooner. although my v-glide had been doing great ! Vince
