Default Carryall won't climb hills

Thanks in advance, i just purchase a 1991 carryall with a fe350 motor. It checked out at 160 psi for the compression test. It is a slow starter when it is cold but after it is warm it starts well. I took it to the lake last night and it had to be pushed up the hill. It goes well on flat ground, I have not gps the speed. What are your thoughts... Right now I am pretty disappointed.

Okay... Took the cart in to a local shop, Hot rod golf carts. They did not know what was wrong with the cart...they were thinking possibly the rearend?? However after checking things out closer I am noticing the that driven clutch is not spinning when the cart stops on the hills. Called CCP and they think it may be the spring but machining will help to.

Silly but worth asking. Did they/you check your starter gen? Make sure that's nice and tight? If that's not tightly bolted in place then the engine will not turn over all the time like under a heavy load going up a hill Vs flat land.

Starter gen belt is tight. Hoew can you tell if the clutches are worn? The belt sits flush with top of driven clutch when stopped. You can push the clutch belt sown approximately 2 inches.

to check to see if the faces are worn lay a straight edge across them(metal scale, something flat ect) and see if the surface is even or has a big wear pattern in it.

the starter belt should have no effect. only on charging or starting. not running.

maybe yank off the belt and snap a few pictures?

I have an FE350 in my wifes villager 6 and that sucker is heavy. It has NO problems getting up hills no matter how steep. I will spin tires long before the engine wants to stop. From the sounds of it your drive clutch might need attention assuming that your engine is tuned up properly.

I will try and get some pictures tonight. CCP thought we should just get the driven clutch worked on... Any thoughts? Does the drive clutch effect torque?

New problem... After the "tune up" performed by local cart shop it wants to back fire after you slow down after a full speed run. It smells rich and bogs down after the backfire.
