Default Golfcart making noises

I need some help diagnosis on my Yamaha G-8 golfcart. It makes a metal to metal sound when is under a load. I read where it could be the Fixed Sheave or a Sliding Sheave or Secondary Seat Spring. I need advice on how to determine what part needs to be replaced and how to diagnosis each part. Or if all parts need to be replaced. What about the drive belt?? Will it need to be replaced also?

Pretty hard ta just tell ya where a noise is coming from. Read the site, to learn, and then start a basic maint. program on the car. Isolate and diagnose each componet of the car as you go. Taking a shot, might be a primary clutch weight going bad.

Good luck!

I took time to take back wheels off and get a closer look. The fixed sheave or sliding sheave is rubbing on the secondary set spring. It has rubbed one side so bad it has wore it down and its shiny. Now tell me, what is needed to fix this?

G8's are harder since there is no "service panel". But can you take some pictures? Maybe the circlip groove in the input shaft is damaged and the spring seat is rubbing against the diff case?

maybe the bushing is worn on the sliding sheave.

I'm going to take pics sometime today and post them. Hopefully they'll help with diagnosis my problem. Thanks for all the replies.

Here are the pics. Look at the last one. It looks that way half-way around the fixed sheave.

HotRod, your pictures won't expand for me, so hard to see, but, is that a crack in the fifth picture? It does look like the spring seat has moved back toward the tranny.

I have pictures of the one I just did on page 457 in the G8 club thread.

It looks to me the ramp shoes need to engage the ramps on the sheave a little more.

Wow..looks like the sliding sheave is almost worn all the way thru! I'd definitly get a new sliding sheave (some have them machined) and a spacer to replace (the bad designed) input shaft circlip. It's up to you if you want to change out the spring for more torque.
