Damaged bearing stuck in rear shaft housing
Heard noise at rear wheel of my 2002 EZGO electric cart. I removed the wheel and brake drum. The brake drum had a lot of play before I removed it. With the brake drum out, I pulled out the half shaft with just my hand. Some thin metal pieces and a few bearing balls came loose as well.
Could you tell me how I can get the old bearing out of the shaft housing and how best to reinstall a new one? Thank you for your help. |

Re: Damaged bearing stuck in rear shaft housing
first thing i do is find a small strong bent "hook" type piece of medal, 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide, clamp large vise grips on that, then tap outward on grips, little on one side then little on the other, sometimes they are not in there real tight, sometimes they are. Do not wedge the race crocked in the housing, back and forth, back and forth, try that first if that dont work we will have to get into it more, do you have a welder?

Another option would be to place a socket inside the axle, then use a piece of threaded rod and a nut to make a bearing puller.

Re: Damaged bearing stuck in rear shaft housing
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I will try the slide hammer and homemade bearing puller methods. Hope that would do it.
Thank you RSP for your tip as well. |

Make your life easier, most auto parts store will lend you tools, go borrow a slide hammer with a hook attachment. Only sane way to take it out. Have fun.
