Solenoid getting very hot
I have a 1994.5 ezgo with 2 gauge cables, PQ bandit motor and 19" tires.
Recently, I smelled some plastic melting and looked under the seat to see that the solenoid had starting melting the wire loom around a group of wires. First off I want to upgrade controller, f/r switch and solenoid.(this winter) Is the 200amp/800amp hd solenoid I see advertised online a upgrade version? If I go with a 400 or 500 amp controller is it enough? I've seen one that is 400/1000 but it looks totally different from my stock deal. Can I upgrade to the bigger solenoid without the controller and f/w switch? Jonnyb????? Lol ImageUploadedByTapatalk1376356366.490483.jpg |

Re: Solenoid getting very hot
if you intend on doing the controller and F/R and the solenoid.....especially of you intend to go to a 400 or 500 amp controller. get the SD Solenoid. and you do the solenoid now? and the rest later, sure.

So the super duty 400/1000 solenoid option is best?

Re: Solenoid getting very hot
that would be my suggestion, and go and talk to scottyb at cartsunlimited.net and he can fix you up.....he has some pretty good deals for the whole set up, if it fits you wallet, you could save a few bucks with one of his packages.

Re: Solenoid getting very hot
the motor is pulling more current (amps), a by product of more current flow is heat. although the motor can handle it, and your cables could handle it, your F/R, Solenoid, controller couldn't, and the solenoid was getting hot enough to melt the wires.
that's my thoughts on what you got going on. |

Side note I just thought about. Today was the longest trip to date with the new motor. Better part of 5 miles on pretty flat roads. Pretty much non stop minus some stop signs. |

Re: Solenoid getting very hot
well I have a high speed motor in mine......last Wednesday I made a non-stop 11 mile run, at 3/4 to full speed for the whole time, except for the stop signs now and then......I had a full pack when I started, and one hour after I stopped, the pack was at 90%....I had a lot of juice left.
