Straightn custom steering wheel?
Anyone out there have experience straightening a custom steering wheel on a Precedent? Mine is a couple of inches off TDC when travelling straight down the road.
The wheel itself has a few different adjustments, but any of those move the wheel about 4 inches. My wheel is slightly off after installing a lift kit and wheel, and while I though it might be controlled by adjusting the tie rod, that didn't seem to work. I also cannot figure out how to hide my horn wiring inside the stainless tube without binding when turning. For now, I've removed the wiring. Chime-in if you've done that, too! Suggestions? |

Re: Straightn custom steering wheel?
I don't know if they are the same but on my Yamaha G-20 I took the horn button off then used a socket with an Extension and loosened the big nut in the center, pull the wheel off and line it up with the splines on the steering shaft put it back on tighten the nut and replace the horn button.
The horn wires, really not much you can do other than on the outside. Thats why I put mine on the floor next to my left foot. Hope this helps!!!!! |

Re: Straightn custom steering wheel?
Thank you, Lurch. The Precedent has a tapered shaft with a "star" type configuration. If I move everything to the "next" position, it moves it one-fifth around the diameter.

Yeah... with Precedents, you can't just remove and reinstall the steering wheel to straighten it out like DS's!
You'll have to remove both tie rod ends from the spindle assemblies and adjust the steering wheel that way! |

Don: Is there a link that you're aware of that provides detailed instructions? I did try to adjust the driver side tie rod, thinking that would do it. However, that didn't do anything except screw up my toe in.
Not sure what you mean when you say remove both. Is it "shorten one side; lengthen other side?" |

Drive the cart straight forward and stop, check the toe-in! (1/8" closer on front as compared to the back of the front tires), Remove both drivers side, and passenger side tie rod ends from the spindle assemblies, (without moving the tires), Turn your steering wheel straight, and adjust BOTH tie rods to fit in the holes on the spindle assemblies! reinstall the tie rods, tighten the nuts, and test drive.... readjust if necessary! NOW I see it! I'll be in the garage at daybreak, trying to straighten it.
Thank you. Quote:
