Default '99 36 Volt TXT: "Speed Chip" Nuances??

Hi Guys,

I have a '99 TXT 36 volt cart. Looking to get a few more "ponies" by adding a "speed chip". Figured now would be a great time to explore this since I have the front and rear cowling off for new paint. Any suggestions on components needed and installation nuances would be much appreciated! Looks like all current components are bone stock...

Thanks!

The "Speed Chip" only applies to PDS carts, which were not introduced until 2000.
A 1999 TXT is either a DCS type drive or a Series type drive.

If there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, IT is a DCS and an aftermarket controller like the Alltrax DCX400DCS will up the speed to about 20MPH on stock height tires and will have a lot of torque.

If it doesn't have a Run/Tow switch, it is a series cart (Series wound motor) and you will have to increase the battery pack voltage to get the motor to spin faster. When you up the pack voltage, you will also have to change the controller.

I'm not sure what you mean by "ponies"
If you increase the tire height or change the differential gear ratio, to get more speed, you lose a corresponding percentage in torque, so the "ponies" (HP) stays the roughly same.

What drive type do you have and what is you end goal, a speed demon or a torque monster?

I thought the speedchip would only apply to a PDS "Freedom"?

Any PDS cart will take the 'chips'

The 'chips' are just various configurations of jumper wires which give varying operating perimeters.

Here are the various "Chips". They are actually plugs with different jumper wire arrangements installed, that fit into the J2 connector on a PDS controller.

And here are the various PDS modes, Freedom being one of them.

Thanks for the feedback...It definitely a DCS unit as it does have the run/tow switch. Suggestions on where I can find this particular controller, anticipated cost, and I'm assuming a pretty easy swap out...? BTW: I am looking for a little more speed...

Thanks again!

A PDS controller isn't compatible with a DCS motor and the control wiring is very different.

For more speed and torque, many DCS owners install a Alltrax DCX400DCS, which is basically plug and play.
It is the #505DCS kit about 2/3 the way down this webpage:http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html
