Default Starter/generator max speed?

I have bypassed the governor and disabled the limiter etc... The cart moves out real well, I barely have to give it 1/2 throttle or so when rolling to maintain high speeds, so I don't over rev the engine.
Now twice, I have taken it out like I usually do for a trip around the grounds. Again just barely spinning the engine to around 3000-3500 rpm's. I will stop, and go back to the cart, and it will not engage the starter motor. The solenoid clicks, which is an oem unit that is quite new. I check with a voltmeter, and it is sending 12v to the starter. But will not engage, I tried jumpering it with a wire to be sure, and the starter/genertor is dead. So I had another one, that was almost new, put it on, and it fired right up and worked great. Until I went on the same route, and it did it again. Now this only like 3-5 minutes of use at a time. Any ideas? The battery has a good charge, and the solenoid is new and working. Am I over spinning them, or should I look at something else.

I am new at carts but this is what i would try. Take first starter and test off cart with jumpers and if bad tear it down and inspect for what happened. Sorry I can't say look at X but maybe others on here can help. This group has a lot of diferant talents and backgrounds. PLEASE keep us posted so many times we never get to hear the outcome.

Yeah obviously something is wrong for both starters to be wiped out.
All the wires were clean and secure.

No, even left it for a day or 2 before trying it again. Once it is dead, it is dead.

I would take the first one to a starter/alternator shop and let
them take a look at it.

Tell us about engine and what pulleys you have, maybe one bigger or smaller than stock making starter rev higher and cracking armature?
