Starter/generator max speed?
I have bypassed the governor and disabled the limiter etc... The cart moves out real well, I barely have to give it 1/2 throttle or so when rolling to maintain high speeds, so I don't over rev the engine.
Now twice, I have taken it out like I usually do for a trip around the grounds. Again just barely spinning the engine to around 3000-3500 rpm's. I will stop, and go back to the cart, and it will not engage the starter motor. The solenoid clicks, which is an oem unit that is quite new. I check with a voltmeter, and it is sending 12v to the starter. But will not engage, I tried jumpering it with a wire to be sure, and the starter/genertor is dead. So I had another one, that was almost new, put it on, and it fired right up and worked great. Until I went on the same route, and it did it again. Now this only like 3-5 minutes of use at a time. Any ideas? The battery has a good charge, and the solenoid is new and working. Am I over spinning them, or should I look at something else. |

Re: Starter/generator max speed?
I am new at carts but this is what i would try. Take first starter and test off cart with jumpers and if bad tear it down and inspect for what happened. Sorry I can't say look at X but maybe others on here can help. This group has a lot of diferant talents and backgrounds. PLEASE keep us posted so many times we never get to hear the outcome.

Re: Starter/generator max speed?
Yeah obviously something is wrong for both starters to be wiped out.
All the wires were clean and secure. |

Re: Starter/generator max speed?
No, even left it for a day or 2 before trying it again. Once it is dead, it is dead.

Re: Starter/generator max speed?
I would take the first one to a starter/alternator shop and let
them take a look at it. |

Re: Starter/generator max speed?
Tell us about engine and what pulleys you have, maybe one bigger or smaller than stock making starter rev higher and cracking armature?
