Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
All things including time must be considered. At least you get it done and behind you. Should be a good driver when you get it back. That's what counts.

Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
MZ-I go with Crash again!! He describes parts. Replacing these is not rocket science. From a time stand point a couple of Sat. afternoons or Eve. should do it. If you have given the go ahead to the shop already-- Good luck. Has the shop said anything about some additional problem that would cause the gaskets to "blow" all of a sudden, I am thinking of some type of pressure in the crank case. I would hate to think you invest the $700. then find out there was something else involved. Don't be afraid of taking on any project with all these dudes to give help. They know their stuff and have been around the horn on almost any problem you have and seem to stay awake nights trying to offer a fix. They have saved my bacon a few times already.

Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
It should be good to go after the fix. The gasket usually blows at that area for no known reason other than time on the motor and usually find the sidecover bolts somewhat loose there as well.
What to do? Maybe retorque the bolts every couple of years if you can remember it..........no biggie |

Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
the statement , has been leaking for some time is what bothers me.
A few drops on the driveway should heve givin it away . Or having to add oil is also a sign ? Good luck ! |

Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
The fuel pump makes me wonder. Was you having a problem with it not pumping enough fuel before this other stuff happened ?

Re: Oh Crap!!!!!!!
I would say the fuel pump pressure, or lack of, could be said to be related to low crankcase pressure caused by the failed gasket sucking in air and blowing out oil. But as long as it has been leaking and building "gunk" on the block it should have been an issue earlier.
It doesn't matter at this point, If MZ calls and tells the gentleman not to replace the pump he will more than likely get offended for having his troubleshooting skills questioned and the quality of work might suffer. Pick it up Saturday and enjoy! |
