Just the controller upgrade to an Alltrax XCT will yield the speed you are looking for.

Will the controller upgrade kill the motor?

I believe the XCT300 will work fine, but you can do the XCT48400 and bump it down to 300 amps so you don't blow your stock motor. Then, when you finally decide to upgrade the motor you can bump it back up to 400.

I have the same cart, but with the Alltrax xct48400, heavy duty solenoid, 4 gauge cables and a high speed motor from Electrical Motor Products and I'm at 28-29 mph on flat asphalt. Get w/ScottyB..

The industry is finding the Hitachi tin can motor to be quite fragile. If you want to keep the original motor restrict the cart to 300 amps. As suggested XCT48400 is the best bet. Ask your dealer to turn it down to 300a before he ships - then you always have the option of turning it up later.
