Default G16 Drive Clutch 'stuck'

Son was driving his G16. Now it seems the drive clutch is 'stuck nearly closed.
Cart does not want to pull off from a stop because of this. (Kind of like trying to start an old stick shift car in 2nd gear with no clutch).

Can't seem to free it up.

It is a stock Yamaha clutch.

Any tricks? Time for new clutch/rebuild?

Going to try to pop it off this week.

Thanks!

You are killing your engine, stop that. Will have to cut the belt off. Remove cover on primary clutch & you will find a weight slung out of position. It's also gonna have one or more rollers with flat spots.. sometimes a rebuild is possible, sometimes the clutch is too worn, and will just eat new parts.

Thanks CG. We're not driving it any more. Was just explaining the symptoms.

Is it possible to pop the clutch off without cutting the belt (save it)? It's in pretty good shape and would hate to ruin it but will do what I have to. Lol.

If you can get the clutch to slide open you might be able to get the belt off. When a clutch is stuck, the belt doesn't have enough room to slip off. You could also remove the primary clutch first, then you can get the belt off.

That's what I was thinking. Remove drive clutch and hopefully get belt off without destroying it.

It may be difficult to get clutch off with pressure from the belt pulling on it but worth a try I suppose...just make sure you have the clutch puller and a good impact...
