Default Ring help

Got my new rings for my G16 need to know if the top ring is the lighter one or darker one.... Thanks

Are they Yamaha rings or aftermarket? I've looked at the service manual so many time to get that same question awnsered...just no awnser. You sould see a marking (like an "R") witch should go "UP". Don't have a picture so, if the piston "arrow" is pointing at 9 oclock, oil ring(lower) should be at 1-oclock/oil ring upper-5-oclock,top ring-11-oclock and 2nd ring at 7-oclock. Hope that help alittle. Dave

got them from J&M no marking but one is a soild color and one is not one has a grat color around it and feels softer darker one seems harder so thinking that is the compression ring. Does that sound right....Head is spinning now....Thanks

with most aftermarket rings the lighter or gray colored is the top ring! but i can't say for sure in your application.

I have never tried J&M engines or parts,but I have talked to them (very nice people) and have refered guy's to them and they were very satified with there engines. I would suggest calling and asking them. Later dave
